My research focuses on misinformation sharing behavior on social networks, particularly examining how platform features and psychological processes contribute to the spread of false or misleading information online. I study how rewards (such as likes, shares and comments) on social media can lead to sharing engaging but potentially false information. In another stream, I study the resharing mechanism on social media. The fact that resharing doesn't require users to actively fabricate false claims impacts perceptions of acceptability. Users often view resharing misinformation as less ethically problematic than creating it, even though the end result – the spread of false information – is the same.
