I'm a rhetorical theorist by training. I study how people make sense of the world through a wide range of sign systems, including and especially written discourse. Typically, my objects of study are located in scientific and medical domains. In the past, I've studied how people make sense of available evidence within cancer care diagnoses, public policy making about physician-assisted dying, and/or how to communicate about a good-enough-for-now "fit" when assessing the fit of a wheelchair who has newly become disabled. Obviously, the emergence of MAHA has seeded new ground for operationalizing the analytic power of rhetorical theory.
